I had a little help proofreading the stewardship mailing yesterday. Miss Josie stopped by and had some opinions about the letter I was working on — or, more accurately, she wanted to chew it.
We like to say we’re an inter-generational church, so I was happy for the help.
Actually, that inter-generational spirit really is one of the reasons I love this church so much. As part of a Cub Scout project recently, my son was asked to name five adults beyond his family that he knows and trusts. Unsurprisingly, all the people he named were from this church. That made my heart sing – and not just because I’m the pastor. As a mom, I’m so very grateful that my kids are surrounded by so many people who love and care for them.
I bet you have reasons you love this church. Maybe this church took care of you when you were grieving or sick. Maybe this church taught you to love Jesus. Maybe this church gives you a little hope for a hurting world.
This church does so many things, for so many people. We’re able to do all this because of the generous financial gifts that you have given this year. Take a moment to learn how your money has been turned into ministry in 2018. (There are some great photos there, too!)
As we look to 2019, we want to continue being this church, and we want to be this church in new ways, and to new people. To plan an accurate budget, we need you to make a pledge of financial support. We need you to estimate how much you can give next year, weekly, monthly, annually — whatever works for you and your budget. We know times are uncertain, and you can change your pledge at any time, but without it, we won’t know how much ministry we can do next year.
We hope to receive pledges by Sunday, October 21, so that the Stewardship and Finance Team can get to work putting together our budget for next year. On Sunday, October 28, we will give thanks for all our gifts at our Giving Celebration Lunch. I hope you will plan to be there.
Rob and I will be making a pledge out of gratitude for everything this church has been for our kids, and for all the other reasons, too. I hope you will too.
