In the spring of 2017, our congregation will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding as Elm Street Christian Church, later to be known as First Christian. The anniversary offers us a chance to give thanks for the good work that God has done through this congregation in the past one hundred years and to look forward to the future. You’re invited to the Centennial Celebration Kick-Off
on Sunday, April 10, 2016, with a potluck lunch after worship.
People are invited to dress up in their of idea of clothing from 1917 and
to prepare a food item for the potluck similar to food served in 1917.
What should you wear?
It’s totally up to you—and you don’t have to dress up at all.
(But come! Don’t miss this event.)
What should you prepare?
The answer is prepare whatever you want!
But a few things about the times:
-Food rations were a real problem in 1917.
-Canning was very common.
-Apples, beef, potatoes, & cabbage were common ingredients.
-Corn was used in most every meal.
