Betty Self was born in Eden, NC, and grew up in the First Christian Church (DOC) there. After graduating from Morehead High School, she attended Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC. She married George D. (Buddy) Self in 1961; they have four children and nine grandchildren. Buddy and Betty were active members of First Christian Church, Greensboro, since the early to mid-60′s, with the exception of a few years they lived in other locations. While at First Christian, Betty sang in the Chancel Choir and served on various functional committees. In 1999, she moved her church membership to Stoneville Christian Church (DOC), where Buddy is serving as Senior Minister.

Betty began working at First Christian, Greensboro, in 1987 as an Assistant Secretary and is currently serving in the position of Administrative Assistant.
