Rev. Lee Hull Moses – Senior Minister

Lee is a graduate of Albion College and earned her M.Div. from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago as a Disciples Divinity House scholar. A life-long member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she has served as a Peace Intern for the Disciples Peace Fellowship, as well as worked on regional and national events for youth and young adults. She now serves on the Board of Trustees of the Disciples Divinity House. She is the co-author of Gifts of Gilead and serves on the editorial board of Fidelia’s Sisters.

Lee enjoys reading and writing, watching good movies, doing just about anything outdoors, and spending time with her husband, Rob, and their children, Jonathan and Harper.

Before coming to Greensboro, Lee served as Minister of Faith and Family at First Christian Church in Falls Church Virginia. Lee is inspired in her ministry by the wisdom of Micah 6:8: What does the Lord require of you? But to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.

Thandiwe Gobledale – Ministry Intern

Thandiwe (pronounced: “tun-dee-way”) grew up in South Africa and Zimbabwe where her parents were missionaries, and Thandiwe herself worked in South India as a Global Ministries Mission Intern. Currently in the process of getting her M.Div. from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago where she is a Disciples Divinity House Scholar, Thandiwe will be interning at First Christian Church through May 15, 2012. She is excited to be discerning her own call to ministry, and is eager to explore ways of serving the communities beyond our church walls to do ministry both locally and globally.

Since she loves spending time outdoors, Thandiwe is very excited to be in North Carolina, a truly beautiful state. Among Thandiwe’s other interests are cooking, reading and keeping up with friends near and far. She has been blessed, each place she has lived, by people’s generosity and warmth. Truly, God’s love is revealed through the love that we show one another.

Jody Henley – Director of Choirs

Jody H. Henley is a North Carolina native, and has spent most of her life in our community. She received both her Master of Music and her Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and is a National Board Licensed Teacher. Jody has taught choral music at grades K-12 and undergraduate courses at UNCG School of Music after earning all three levels of Orff Certification.

With 25 years as a music educator for Guilford County Schools, her choirs have been invited to perform at many prestigious venues, including the White House, the Governor’s Executive Mansion, Biltmore House, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Her choirs consistently receive Superior ratings at State Contest, earning over 50 Superiors in 15 years while serving as Chapter President for Alpha Delta Kappa, District President and Contest Adjudicator for the North Carolina Music Educators Association.

She has been married to Dan Henley for 25 years, and is the proud mother of two talented musicians, Megan and Weston. Her hobbies are colonial history, needlework, grant-writing, cooking, and her family’s two rescued Golden Retrievers, Lady and Lucy.

Betty Self – Administrative Assistant

Betty Self was born in Eden, NC, and grew up in the First Christian Church (DOC) there. After graduating from Morehead High School, she attended Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC. She married George D. (Buddy) Self in 1961; they have four children and nine grandchildren. Buddy and Betty were active members of First Christian Church, Greensboro, since the early to mid-60′s, with the exception of a few years they lived in other locations. While at First Christian, Betty sang in the Chancel Choir and served on various functional committees. In 1999, she moved her church membership to Stoneville Christian Church (DOC), where Buddy is serving as Senior Minister.

Betty began working at First Christian, Greensboro, in 1987 as an Assistant Secretary and is currently serving in the position of Administrative Assistant.

Tracy Stewart – Communications and Technology Specialist

Tracy Stewart grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and her Bachelor of Arts in Zoology from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio). In 1994 she married Neil Stewart in her grandmother’s church, Norwood Christian Church (DOC). In 2004 they welcomed their daughter, Molly, into the world.

In 2007, Tracy and her family moved to Greensboro. Tracy was baptized, Molly was dedicated and the whole family became members of First Christian Church. Soon after, Tracy became the volunteer webmaster and began updating the church’s website. In 2010, she moved from volunteer to Communications and Technology Specialist, handling the website, newsletters, calendar and various other means of communication for the church.

Tracy enjoys scrapbooking, web design and exploring the beautiful state of North Carolina.

Van Whitsett – Custodian

Van Whitsett is a Greensboro native and a graduate of James B. Dudley High School, Class of ’69. He joined the staff of First Christian Church in December, 1998.

In his spare time, Van studies Internet Affiliate Marketing, designs and builds websites, and plays with his 18 year old Senegal parrot, Koko.

Childcare Staff

Leslie Gooding and Laura Hutchens provide excellent childcare for our youngest children. Our nursery is staffed throughout the morning on Sundays, and for most other church events.

Danielle Dean is our preschool teacher. She works with our preschool-age children, leading Sunday school classes and activities during worship.
