Food Drive and Neighborhood Ice Cream Social

Sunday, October 3, 4:00 p.m.

Bring a can of food (or more!), and help us “fill the bus” with food to donate to the Servant Center food bank. There will be games and an ice cream sundae bar, so bring a friend or neighbor!

Community Yoga

Saturdays, October 9 through November 6, open to the community.

8:45-9:45 Yoga 1
Appropriate for all bodies and all levels of yoga experience, this class will explore traditional yoga poses, breath awareness, and the gentle art of going within. Increase strength and flexibility, while discovering the relaxation and mindfulness cultivated through a yoga practice.

10:00-11:00 Yoga 2-3
This class is recommended for students who have experience with yoga, and want to take their practice to deeper levels. By exploring breath work, physical postures and yoga philosophy, participants will develop mindfulness and increase physical fitness.

Please bring a yoga mat or a large towel.

Cost: $7 per class, $5 per class if you purchase three or more (A portion supports FCC’s Outreach Ministry)

Young Adult Sunday School Class

Fall Activities

This fall, our worship and our activities will all center around the theme Care for Creation, as we find ways to care for our neighbors, our selves and our earth: a neighborhood food drive and ice cream social (Oct. 3), the continuing adopt-a-school program, the Crop Walk (Oct. 17), small groups and classes, a new class for young adults, community yoga classes, a book discussion as part of the One City One Book program, and a welcome lunch for visitors.

August 14 Summer of Service

On August 14 we will have our last Summer or Service Day! This will be a great day! We are going to gather at the church at 9:00. Some people will be going to the Barnabas Network to help them sort through their recent donations. A couple people will remain at the church and cook meals to be distributed to members of our congregation. Everyone else (including the kids) will load up the bus and head over to Glen Haven to host a back-to-school party for the refugees living in the apartment complex. While there, we will fill backpacks with school supplies to be distributed to the kids, enjoy ice cream sundaes, and play games (we even have a parachute!). This day is going to be very fun and we hope you will all join us!

Upcoming Outreach Events

We have a lot going on right now in our outreach ministries!

Canning Class: July 25
Coming up on July 25 at 6:00 P.M., Dawn Benbow will be leading a canning class at the church. The jars will be provided, as will the tomatoes. Don’t miss this very fun and interesting experience!

Summer of Service Work Day: July 31
Our next Summer of Service day is on July 31. It will begin at 9:00 A.M. and end at 12:00 P.M. with refreshments. We will be clearing trails at Kopper Top, a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding and animal-assisted therapy for individuals with disabilities. (Because Kopper Top is located at a farm, we will have to drive about 25 minutes to get there, so we should not expect to be finished early, like we were on the July 10 Summer of Service day.) We will also be building a greenhouse at the Community Garden and cooking for members of our congregation. Kids will paint artwork to hang in patients’ rooms at Beacon Place.

Ten Thousand Villages Work Project: August 2
On August 2 at 4:40 P.M. we will be painting fixtures in the Ten Thousand Villages store, a fair trade organization. We will meet at the church and drive over together. If you are unable to be there at 4:40, you are welcome to join us later! We will be finished by 8:00 P.M.

Summer of Service Work Day: August 14
During our August 14 Summer of Service workday, we will be hosting a back-to-school party for 40-60 kids and their families at Glen Haven. Many of these families are newly arrived refugees and will greatly benefit from this. To prepare for this party, we are collecting backpacks and school supplies to be distributed to the kids. These donations may be put in the donations box in the narthex and monetary donations may be labeled Summer of Service and placed in the offering trays.
