Come to the Waters
Lent 2010
“Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters, and you that have no money, come buy and eat!” Isaiah 55:1
The season of Lent is a tradition of the church that marks the journey from darkness to light, from death to life. These six weeks leading up to Good Friday offer an opportunity for self-reflection and renewed spiritual practice. This year, there are several opportunities to participate in the Lenten journey:
Small Group Study
Rev. Moses will lead a Lenten bible study on Thursday evenings at 7:00, beginning February 25. If you are not currently part of a small group at the church, this will be a good way to connect with others in the congregation and spend some time in study and prayer.
Outreach
Make your Lenten practice one of generosity and service. Each time you go grocery shopping during this season, pick up some extra non-perishable food items. Bring them to worship each week and we’ll share the donations with the Servant Center to help those in need.
Special Services
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17. At 7:00 p.m., we will share a simple service of song, scripture, and prayer, as well as the traditional imposition of ashes, which remind us of human sin and mortality and God’s gracious gift of life.
Our Lenten journey concludes with Holy Week. On Palm Sunday, March 28, you won’t want to miss the Palm Parade as our children remind us of the excitement of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. We will mark Maundy Thursday, April 2, with a Tenebrae service led by our choir as we remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. A Good Friday prayer vigil will lead us into worship at noon on April 3, with a light lunch following.
On Easter Sunday, April 4, we will welcome the new day with a sunrise service at 7:00, followed by breakfast. Sunday school at 9:45 will lead into our Easter Celebration at 11:00, with loud shouts of “Alleluia!” as we celebrate the good news of Christ’s resurrection.
Join us as we journey together through this season.
