This is a Christian ministry that brings together people of all faiths to work as partners with people in need around the globe, building decent, affordable homes and eliminating poverty housing.

At First Christian Church we have made a commitment to the Lunch Ministry by providing a meal for Habitat volunteers, and it is time for the first of four lunches this year. The Outreach team takes care of the shopping; however, we need help with the prep work and the serving of the meal.

Please consider assisting with this great Christian ministry February 18.  Please contact the office at 336-273-4725 for more information or to sign up to help.

Week of Compassion – Feb 19-26

Posted by on February 15, 2012

Week of Compassion continues to focus on the ways “Sharing Brings Joy,” this year specifically on how “Sharing Brings Joy to Others.” Much of the time, our gifts bring joy to others through the tangible results of our sharing:

A family displaced by natural disaster or political unrest is grateful to receive food, shelter, and the comfort of a safe place to begin to rebuild their lives.

A woman who has had to walk miles to carry potable water for her family smiles as she draws water from a clean well near her home.

A child excitedly arrives for the first day of class at her village’s new school.

Of course, when we “sow bountifully” by giving to others, we reap bountifully by sharing in the joy that our gifts bring to those whose basic needs are met through the important work of all our partners in service.

This year, as you share your tithes and offerings with Week of Compassion, remember all the ways your gifts bring joy to others. Sow bountifully and share abundantly, knowing that you are not only helping change the statistics, you are also helping change lives.

Please consider picking up an item or two from the list when you go grocery shopping for your own household.

Canned Foods: corn, peas, green beans, carrots, fruit cocktail, peaches, pears, soups, spaghetti sauce, ravioli, beef stew, salmon and tuna.

Bagged/Boxed Food: macaroni and cheese, pasta, oatmeal, cereal, jelly, shelf stable milk, peanut butter.

They are also in need of personal items:  deodorant, paper towels, disposable diapers, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, and toothpaste.

CROP Hunger Walks help children and families worldwide – and right here in the U.S. – to have food for today, while building for a better tomorrow. Our local efforts are making a huge difference… and you are part of it!

We’re looking for walkers and runners of all ages from First Christian Church to participate in this event. If you don’t think walking or running is for you, you can participate by giving money to sponsor our walkers and runners. Let’s make a difference in the lives of those who are hungry. Let us spread the Good News of God’s goodness and generosity! If you’re interested in walking, running or donating money, you can sign up after church or you can contact our ministry intern Thandiwe Gobledale (thandiwe@fccgreensboro.org).

We are supporting Cone Elementary School again this year. We support the children by providing school supplies at the beginning of the year and with the food backpack program throughout the school year. We need your help in donating school supplies for both of these projects. When you go shopping, please pick up a few items each time. If you don’t want to shop, but would like to help you may make a donation and the Outreach team will do the shopping for you.

You can pick up a school supply list at church or online.
